PREVIOUSLY ON BTS: JUNE 27-JULY 3 TOPPING THE CHARTS IS NOTHING NEW FOR BTS

What a week this has been for BTS! In the last PoB we had a box set, lives from Jimin, Jungkook, and Hoseok, and the Stay Gold MV. This week includes a Run BTS! episode, lots of photoshop, charted #1’s, and a legal action update from Big Hit.


THE CHARTS


Starting off, ARMY had a streaming party over on Twitter this week. The party helped many songs, including Moon, Agust D, and Inner Child, reach many new records. Moon, at the beginning of the week, reached 30 #1s across iTunes and (by the end of the week) reached 50. Inner Child reached 40 #1s and Agust D trended #1 worldwide for reaching 100 million views.


Jungkook became the most searched K-Pop idol on Google for 22 weeks at the beginning of 2020. Congrats to him! He was also mentioned in a Japanese TV show which then got him trending at #8 on Twitter Japan.


D-2 recently surpassed 30 million streams on Soundcloud in just 41 days. This is Yoongi’s 2nd album to achieve this milestone.


Stay Gold debuted at #1 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales Chart.


Last but not least, BTS became the first act to have 13 MVs with OVER 6 million likes on YouTube, and on July 2, was the most streamed group on Spotify with 13.4 million streams. Regardless of the battle ARMY has with YouTube views being deleted, we are still reaching new heights.


One last treat, though not chart related; BTS will appear on Japanese television to perform Stay Gold on July 18 from 12:59 to 1:59 AM KST.


FOR ARMY


This week’s Run BTS! caught the eyes of many ARMYs for their photoshop skills. In the episode, the photos taken by the boys were framed for a little exhibition. They gave information on the concepts and titles of each photo.


Thanks to Seokjin mentioning his framed picture from last week’s episode, ARMYs went to work making memes and having fun. Here are just some of the edits we were able to catch. We have a Wrestling be like… meme, Fountain Jin, Toy Store Yoongi, Boy With Luv Jungkook, and Under The Sea Jimin, and Jin as a toy.


Jungkook is amongst the list of celebrities whose life-sized cardboard figures are being used in a Malaysian university to practice social distancing.


ARMY Language on Twitter is back with their new language courses and they’re opening the Korean Level 1 Course. Classes start on July 17, 18, or 19. This course includes free materials provided to you, and will last for 10 weeks with each class being 2 hours long. The exam to apply for the course ended on July 5, but don’t worry if you didn’t make it! They will have more opportunities later.


Baskin-Robbins and BTS are becoming a thing now! The group recently filmed a commercial for the ice cream brand that will start airing in August this year. According to the article, Baskin-Robbins will begin pre-orders for a BTS cake that will be available for purchase with a projection light, starting mid-July.


BIG HIT NEWS


The company has made two announcements regarding BTS this week. One announcement includes an update to the BTS Fanclub Membership. “On September 1, 2020, new changes will be coming to the BTS GLOBAL OFFICIAL FANCLUB ARMY MEMBERSHIP.” New policies and benefits will be brought to the membership for a “more diverse experience to ARMY.”


The second update is one for legal actions on BTS’ behalf. The article mentions the company having “filed complaints to the police using evidence collected through fan submissions and our [Big Hit] own monitoring.” Previous complaints have successfully won against the suspects who were sentenced with fines. The company has also dealt with the suspects appointing a legal representative and attempting to negotiate a settlement, however Big Hit states “we followed our principles and expressed our desire to show absolutely no leniency.”


This week has included a lot of different things, but a lot of it has been charts. Good job ARMY! Let’s continue to chart the boys and support them the best way we can. Borahae!
