On November 3 during the “2021 HYBE Briefing with the Community,'' the General Manager of HYBE Shawn Hwangbo revealed that a fantasy webtoon and web novel, starring BTS-inspired characters, would be released soon. Then on November 4, the title of the webtoon/web novel, "7FATES: CHAKHO", was revealed through the story's social media handles for the first time.
For the next two months, HYBE posted promotional pictures and videos, teasing the plot of the story. The teasers left so much room for imagination as they contained spoilers such as “fate”, “story”, “horror”, “hunt”, “monster”, and “incident”. Later on, the characters were also revealed, resembling the BTS members. Jungkook is Zeha, Jimin is Haru, RM is Dogeon, Jin is Hwan, j-hope is Hosu, V is Jooan, and SUGA is Cein, though their backstories were yet to be unfolded.
Through their promotional interview, BTS members revealed what to expect from the webtoon and web novel. Taking place in a futuristic, fictional city, the story will be filled with “amazing action scenes as they race through the city of Sin-si” according to Jungkook. Jimin said it’s “a story that reimagines the legends and folklore,” revealing that there will be a lot of references to old Korean folklore. “Beom” was mentioned for the first time, and it seems like one of the most vital parts for the story plot.
It was then explained in RM’s interview, that "7FATES: CHAKHO" revolves around seven beom hunters’ stories, decorated with tragic fate and vengeance in some sense. Beom (Korean for tiger), as explained by Jin, is a monster that haunts the city of Sin-si and threatens the life of humans, and the seven beom hunters come together under the name of Chakho. Furthermore, V explained that this story was also inspired by “Chakhogapsa”, the tiger hunters during the Joseon Dynasty.
From the same interview, we finally caught a glimpse into the characters' backstories. Jungkook’s character Zeha is a half-human, half-tiger, who was attacked by a beom and has dedicated his life to hunting them using his tiger power while also protecting his identity. Jimin as Haru is a deity of the rock, which guards the portal to the world of the beom. RM as Dogeon is a crime expert who spent his life in the back alleys of the city, and Jin as Hwan used to be an archer. After losing his entire family during a beom attack, Hwan decided to spend his life tracking them down.
j-hope as Hosu was kidnapped by beom and has golden eyes, though we don’t know what caused it yet. However, we believe it will be an important part of the plot. V as Jooan is a beom hunter who falls in love with a beom, which puts him in a difficult position. Last but not least, SUGA as Cein is a survivor of a beom attack, which traumatized him, but that was before he met his six friends. Interesting backstories, aren’t they?

On January 15, we finally got to see the first chapter(s) of "7FATES: CHAKHO". The prologue started with an intense fighting scene between Chakho and beom in Sin-si, the main city where the story takes place. The scene was beautifully descriptive, complete with sound effects translated into words, and drawings which highlighted some interesting parts. Though they don’t make sense now, we are sure they will strengthen the plot later. The official first chapter gave us a glimpse of Zeha’s and Haru’s past lives and how they became hunters.
But still, there are so many unanswered questions: how do Zeha and Haru meet the other Chakho members? What happened to Zeha’s parents since he was raised in an orphanage? Why does beom haunt and devour humans? Where do they get their weapons as seen in the prologue episode? Paid episodes are available on both Wattpad and Webtoon, and if you can’t wait another week to finally get some answers, you can definitely buy coins.
Another thing worth mentioning is the official soundtrack for "7FATES: CHAKHO", which will feature a song produced by SUGA and sung by Jungkook called Stay Alive. This song will be premiered through Naver Webtoon on February 5, and will be available on all digital streaming platforms on February 11. We can’t wait to hear it!
