Previously on BTS: Unpacking a Busy Week March 19-25

Greetings, ARMY! We’ve had another busy week with BTS. We’re talking VLives, IG updates, new records, and an amazing feature with Uncle Steve. Heck, that was all only on March 19! So, let’s dive in and unpack this stellar week with our boys in the Magic Shop.

BTS VLive with special appearance by RJ

ARMYs were pleasantly surprised when BTS went live on March 19. Quickly, though, we realized something was amiss – where was Jin? Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long to find out. On Weverse, Big Hit Music put out a statement that Jin had injured some tendons in his left index finger. The statement explained that Jin had surgery on the afternoon of Friday, March 18 to repair the injury and that he was resting after being discharged. During the VLive, RM confirmed that Jin is doing well. Let's wish Jin a speedy recovery so that he may resume his activities in good health!

Waste It On Me is GOLD!

On March 19 just before 11 AM, Eastern Time, “Uncle” Steve Aoki tweeted that Waste It On Me, his 2018 collab with BTS, had been certified Gold in the United States.

FREE FIRE X BTS

Also on March 19, it was announced via Twitter that BTS had collaborated with FREE FIRE, a mobile battle royale game. We waited until March 22 before we could get a sneak peek, but most ARMYs felt it was worth it. Just check out these fits designed by the boys! Also, be on the lookout for the FREE FIRE X BTS Variety Show. Do you play FREE FIRE?

More photos? Yes, please!

The first set released this week were of photos taken during the soundcheck and concerts in Seoul. Tweeted by BTS_official on March 20, the collection of over 60 photos were posted to both Weverse and Facebook.

The BTS DECO KIT photoshoot sketch was then released on March 21.

Pictures from the DECO KIT shoot were then shared on Naver via a tweet by BTS_official on March 23. The boys showed off three different photo concepts: cute school boy looks, romantic looks, and a retro look. Be sure to check them out if you haven’t already!

Just an hour earlier, the official Twitter account shared a #BANGTANZIP called “BTS Has the Best Chemistry in Town.” This Facebook exclusive is over three minutes of BTS having fun together while doing a photoshoot. First, we see the unit of j-hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. Then SUGA and V grace our screens with their serious but gorgeous faces. Next up, Jungkook does some solo shots and shares that taking photos is still difficult for him. Jimin’s solo work is next, followed quickly by j-hope who is photographed with giant bubbles. SUGA then joined 3J for more pics. Soon, V makes an appearance for photos with RM and Jin, before Jin does some solo shots. Finally, OT7 do their thing leaving us all breathless with their ethereal beauty.

Awards, Records, and Streams

ARMY continues to be right behind BTS in every way. On March 22, we celebrated together as BTS received not one, but two iHeartRadio awards: Best Music Video for Butter, and Best Fan Army. It was also announced that BTS were the biggest-selling act in the world last year. Here are some notable YouTube and Spotify updates for the week:

YouTube: Life Goes On reached 440M and Stay Gold reached 220M views; Boy with Luv is now at 1.480B and Lights has 140M, while Film Out has 190M views.

Spotify: Dynamite: 1.290M; For You: 30M; Intro: Boy Meets Evil: 90M; I Need U (Remix): 10M; Permission To Dance: 420M; No More Dream: 110M; Butter (ft. Megan Thee Stallion): 110M; My Universe: 500M; Blue & Grey: 180M; and Not Today: 220M streams.

D’FESTA

On Wednesday, March 23, the official teaser for D’FESTA was published. Dispatch’s D’FESTA is an event featuring the hottest K-pop artists to celebrate Dispatch’s 10th anniversary. Though the ceremony and performances have been pre-recorded, the line-up of ENHYPEN, BTS, TXT and more has everyone quite excited.

Best Wishes for j-hope

A statement was issued on March 24 via Weverse that j-hope tested positive for COVID-19. According to the press release, he was not presenting any extraordinary symptoms other than a sore throat. We are excited that j-hope plans to take part in activities next month once his at-home treatment concludes.
