Previously on BTS: Is This a Break or Not? That is the Question! Dec 11-17

It has been a week since BTS’ “second official extended period of rest” was announced by Big Hit Music on December 6. The septet is vacationing, but ARMY is still witnessing new records being made and broken by them, and watching their pre-recorded performances from when they were in the US for the "Permission To Dance On Stage" concerts. However, these weren’t the only things that happened. So ARMY, buckle up! This blog will talk about the events that took place this week.

Awards and other Accomplishments

On December 11, BTS won nine awards at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, including four Daesangs: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Worldwide Icon of the Year. With this, BTS now has 63 Daesangs, and has swept all the major awards at MAMA for the third time. On the same day, Juice WRLD’s song featuring SUGA, Girl of My Dreams, racked up 50 #1’s on iTunes worldwide, made its debut at #11 on the Global Spotify chart with 3.226 million streams, and as of December 15, has attained 10 million streams on Spotify.

BTS’ 2019 EP MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA was certified Gold in Italy on December 13. On Billboard, My Universe is ranked at #59, BTS at #9, and Butter at #1 and #8 on the Hot 100, Artist 100, Digital Song Sales, and Hot 100 Japan charts, respectively. An honorable mention in BTS’ evergrowing achievements is the septet being #6 on Billboard’s list of the Greatest Pop Stars of 2021. Well-deserved, we might add! As of December 14, Jin has surpassed 1 million followers on Spotify, and BTS is still reigning on Gaon Social Chart for 39 consecutive weeks.

Social Media

Any week would “feel" incomplete without checking out what BTS has shared on Instagram, Twitter, and Weverse. On December 11, RM, j-hope, and V shared stories and posts on their respective Instagram profiles, where they can be seen doing different activities on their vacation. The members shared more posts and stories through their profiles in later days. As surreal as it is, it's also interesting to see how the members have taken to Instagram and showcased their individual personalities, with RM sharing his wonderful visits to Art museums, j-hope with his on-point fashion and Polaroid-style pictures, and V with his passion for Jazz and photography.

All seven members also thanked ARMY on Weverse and Twitter on December 12, after BTS won nine awards at MAMA the day prior. V, Jimin, and j-hope posted and commented on many ARMYs’ posts on Weverse as well.

Performances

BTS’ much-awaited Crosswalk performance segment on the Late Late Show with James Corden finally aired on December 16, and we can’t help but envy the people who saw it first-hand! Coldplay performed My Universe with holographic versions of BTS in the finale of The Voice, and BTS' performances at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball aired on CW on December 16. On YouTube's Escape 2021 event, BTS performed Butter and Permission to Dance with a Minecraft-ed twist! BTS really know how to spoil us with unexpected surprises!

Content

Two new Bangtan Bombs were released on December 11 and 13, showcasing BTS' antics at the green room and SUGA playing the piano while shooting the music video for Permission to Dance. On December 12, new and exciting photos, along with a teaser of the much-awaited webtoon/web novel, "7FATES: CHAKHO by BTS" dropped on the upcoming story's social media handles and YouTube. V's new song Christmas Tree, which is a part of Choi Wooshik's drama OST, Our Beloved Summer, will drop on Christmas Eve (December 24) at 6 PM KST. We can't wait to receive V's sweet Christmas gift and hear what will be a heartwarming and comforting song to get us into the festive spirit!

This week was an eventful one for ARMY, and there are hardly any weeks left in 2021 to wrap up! Stay safe and stay tuned for the next blog, ARMY!
