Jinny’s Kitchen Ep. 3-4

Celebrating their love of Korean food with the townspeople of Bacalar sits Jinny’s Kitchen, a quaint and open snack bar overlooking one of the main streets in the town. “Jinny’s Kitchen” is a fun and refreshing variety show that will have you drooling over delicious food and is a perfect summertime watch! Let’s continue where we left off!

Ep. 3

The last episode ended with Choi Woo Shik arriving late for his shift at the bar, and just in time as the crew prepares for the dinner rush. So far, the customers are enjoying a popular item on the menu, ramyeon. Next, four friends arrive to celebrate a birthday and order the most amount of food that day. One friend in particular seemed to have immensely enjoyed the dishes even though it seemed to be her first time eating Korean cuisine, exclaiming often about the deliciousness of the ddeokbokki and slurping the broth from the ramyeon. At another table, two men are having a small dispute over whether or not they should come back tomorrow. Seo Jin secured their return when he offered kimchi if they came the next day. He then offered some Yakgwa, deep-fried cookies infused with ginger and honey, for dessert.

Soon, it was time to close the bar for the night and begin food prep. Taehyung, having worked one day more than Woo Shik, took the opportunity to boss Woo Shik around while they made bulgogi. After preparations, they returned home and had a BBQ dinner for Woo Shik while they discussed adding meal combos and spicy fried chicken to the menu for money-savvy food lovers.

The next day, the employees of Jinny’s Kitchen split off into two teams to buy fresh groceries for their menu expansion and start the day in the restaurant, which had welcomed a couple of guests even before officially opening. Despite the back staff having trouble frying the chicken, they were able to open on time and the meal combos took off in popularity. When there was downtime for the interns, they created fun skits to entertain themselves before heading back to work.

The bar was busy throughout the entirety of lunch, with a couple families and many friend groups looking for a place to eat lunch at. At 4pm, they attempted to have an hour-long break, though it was difficult as many patrons kept coming in. Their lunch consisted of spicy ramyeon with corn cheese, and spicy ramyeon with beef. They enjoy a nice but short break before getting back to work in time to open at 6pm.

Ep. 4

The next episode starts with a busy kitchen and three tables waiting for their order, one of which belongs to the owners of a local cafe house that Jinny’s crew like to frequent for coffee. The corn dogs become a popular menu item when one table is inspired by another’s order. As the dinner rush continues, more customers arrive and wait for a seat while remaining customers continue adding onto their current orders. Barely an hour into opening, the crew realizes they’re running low on supplies, leading Seo Joon to prove his skills as back house chef and replenish what they were missing before menu items are announced sold out for the night.

Eventually, the restaurant did run out of food again around 8pm and they decided to close for the day. In the end, they were able to reach their sales goal of making over 10,000 pesos, but the staff was completely drained. To make up for it, Seo Jin gave the staff a day off for leisure. They spent the well-deserved break paddling and swimming through the lake, exercising, and watching sports. By 1pm, they all convened at the house to watch Korea and Brazil play during the 2022 World Cup Knockout Round. At dinnertime, they discussed strategies for keeping their chicken supplies in check.

The next day at the bar, they were much more prepared and expected many customers. However, other than the initial spurt at opening, there were no visitors throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Even Woo Shik was relegated to handing out flyers on the pier to attract customers. The episode ended with Seo Jin worrying about how to fill the bar with people, while also getting rid of the extra food for expected customers who never came.

Stay tuned to see how the restaurant will fare with this new obstacle in the next episode of “Jinny’s Kitchen”!
