Finding Jimin In Seongsu

On the up-and-coming streets of Seongsu-dong, also known as the “Brooklyn” of Seoul, many artists and artisans set up shop to make a name for themselves in their respective industries. It also gives artists some freedom in creating social media-worthy content. To anyone walking around the neighborhood, they might notice ebbing crowds of what looks like tourists and locals alike slowly congregating towards an eye-catching, or flamboyant, painting of a man in the middle of a dance. Or they might pass by a creative architectural building with a queue longer than the block itself. These are currently hotspot destinations where fans of Park Jimin can partake in celebrating Jimin-tober in Korea.

One hotspot lies at the forefront of a quiet side alley, where a huge mural covers the side of a building. The mural displays Jimin mid-jump during his dance solo of BTS’s 2019 MMA performance of their hit song, I Need U. The artist(s) painted a pretty special pose of Jimin not just because he was showing off the elegance and grace he exuded in this dance number, but because this pose also showcased Jimin’s Nevermind tattoo etched across one side of his ribcage. Jimin’s dance pose is set against a starry night background with a great, big moon almost right behind him.

What makes this mural even more beautiful is the fact that it encapsulates a breathtaking moment in time when ARMY was mesmerised by Jimin’s effortless performance. It’s the perfect way of going down memory lane with Jimin and is one example of the many expressions of love that ARMYs have shown for the singer for his 27th birthday (28 being his Korean age). It’s no surprise that fans visiting the city of Seoul can be found taking turns posing in front of this decorated wall.

Another hotspot is at the Seongsu Yeonbang, or Seongsu Federation building. As with several previous years, fancafes have always made it a tradition to create fan events to celebrate the birthday of their favorite idols and actors, and Jimin’s was no exception! Within the Seongsu Yeonbang lies a spacious courtyard and park that were decorated with floor-to-ceiling posters, an outdoor exhibition of Jimin’s concept room from the BE album (designed as a photo booth for fans), food events at the cafe and pizzeria, and fanmade goodies for fans. This event, deemed as Jiminland, garnered so much attention and attracted so many supporters of “Korea’s IT boy” that it was even extended to his actual birthday!

Every year, it cannot be denied that the scope and creativity of ARMY when planning for Jimin’s birthday exceeds expectations every time. For our Busan Prince, it is only right that his birthday is celebrated as though he is royalty and the proof lies in every fan event dedicated to him. Jimin’s birthday is so widely celebrated that it could easily be seen as a national holiday.

Seongsu-dong was one of multiple locations around the world that was able to get a proper Jimin-ification for the month of October. These events not only represent Jimin’s ethereal and kindhearted personality but also displays openly to the world, and hopefully Jimin, how much his fans love and adore him and how his popularity continues to shine in Korea.
