BTS The Best (of) - 2015

There is no individual moment that can define BTS’ rise to the renowned global artists they are now. That rise was based on many small and big moments combined, and the incredible work ethic of BTS along with undying support from ARMY since the beginning. However, the year of 2015 in BTS’ career holds a strong base that ultimately led to the BTS we know and love now.

To most ARMY, it comes as no surprise the amount of bumps in the road that BTS faced and the amount of work that ARMY did in the early days to uplift and support the boys. 2015 saw the work put in by Bangtan and ARMY bloom into recognition, forcing those who refused to pay attention to see what they’re capable of. Although 2015 was packed for BTS, let's explore the key points during that year.

The Rise of Bangtan on the Charts

BTS have done well on the charts since debut, but 2015 was the turning point that began putting them on the forefront of the music industry.

The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 garnered a combination of 477,799 Gaon physical sales. They also started to chart multiple songs simultaneously. Over on Billboard 200, BTS entered the chart for the first time and gathered 7,000 combined physical sales in the US for The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. Charting on these charts in particular shows their star power since the beginning. Critics and fans everywhere were starting to see them as talented artists.

The Most Definitive Moment in 2015 and Beyond

The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 are commonly referred to as the "HYYH" era, and both albums were part of the "Youth Trilogy". These albums marked the moment of transition from boys to young men for the members, and they wanted to show they were on their way to finding themselves and the evolution of their music.

This era also held the masterpiece MVs, I Need U and Dope. I Need U MV showed a darker concept full of meaning, and Dope showed a fun side that showcased BTS’ amazing dance skills. Both songs put them on the map as all-rounders.

The "HYYH" era has been a definitive marker in BTS’ career because it solidified what we would come to know as the BTS Universe. The storytelling they had started since their debut evolved into a more mature and intricate story that has kept ARMY enthralled.

"HYYH" also gave us some of the biggest hits like I Need U, Dope, RUN, Butterfly, and Baepsae. Though, one song would become part of something even bigger.

First Music Show Win

The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 had an amazing tracklist, but the lead single I Need U was the song that would change BTS’ career. On May 5, 2015, BTS received their first number one win on a South Korean music show on SBS The Show. Then, on May 7, they got their second win on Mnet M! Countdown. Their happiness was palpable through the screen, their hard work finally being rewarded, and this only made them want to work harder–an aspect of Bangtan that has led them continuously on the path to success.

BTS’ Showmanship

The success of their music and their natural charm took them around the world for their “Red Bullet” tour. The tour took them from South Korea to Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Australia, and the United States.

Their US shows sold out in minutes and had them in the cities of NYC, Dallas, Chicago, and LA. They also held first-time solo performances and filled up venues in Australia and Brazil that were difficult for any idol group to fill. Particularly, in Brazil, BTS got the record for the biggest concert stage for an idol group ever.

They held the “2015 BTS Live Trilogy Episode I: BTS Begins,” a 2-day sold-out show at the Olympic Hall in South Korea, and a 3-day concert in SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium for “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life On Stage.” There was also their first Japanese tour named “Wake Up: Open Your Eyes,” which sold out 6 shows, as well as “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life On Stage,” which held 2 sold-out shows in Yokohama Arena.

Their high demand all over the world showed the already-solid fanbase BTS had built, one that only got stronger and has brought all of us to the monumental moments we have to this date.

The Start of the Legacy

As stated priorly, there is no individual moment that made BTS the legends they are today; however, 2015 and the "HYYH" era shaped the beginning of a grand story. It has even made a bit of a comeback recently, as RM has been visiting memory lane on his Instagram (maybe a clue as to what is to come in the new album?). Much has changed since then, yet "HYYH" truly gave all of us beautiful moments and beautiful words. Though, there is no denying that BTS’ growth and success started from the very first time they said, “2! 3! Hello, we are BTS.”

We hope this blog has served you well, either as a reminder of a very eventful year or an introduction to a time that shaped BTS. We hope you have an amazing day and hope to see you back for another blog.
