A Very Bangtan Vacation Pt. 2

ARMY MAGAZINE

J-Hope was in Los Angeles to conduct some very important business (we now know that it was to film the Chicken Noodle Soup Music Video). If you are ever in LA, how about checking out Venice Beach? You could do some people watching or even just hang out and listen to the street musicians. Or how about trying to see if you can find your favorite celebrity's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? You can also attend a free live taping of a game show/sitcom provided that you send in an online request beforehand and it gets approved on time. Most tapings are in Burbank and Culver City.

L.A. is also home to some free museums. Why not check out The Broad in Downtown LA or The Getty Museum? Museums that you would usually pay for also tend to have a 'free day’ every month, so keep a look out for their posts.

Our esteemed leader RM was in the beautiful and scenic Venice and Milan. Below are some favorite tourist spots for you to visit when you are there.

Starting in the picturesque Venice, we look at Piazza San Marco. Often known in English as St Mark's Square, it's the principal public square of Venice, where it is locally known as la Piazza ("the Square"). The Piazzetta ("little Piazza/Square") is an extension of the Piazza towards San Marco basin in its south east corner. The two spaces together form the social, religious and political centre of Venice and are commonly considered together.

You can also visit the Basilica di San Marco. The Square is dominated at its eastern end by the great St Mark's Basilica. During the Carnival of Venice, an annual festival known worldwide for its elaborate masks, you would be able to see "il Volo dell'Angelo" (the Angel's fly) here. The Carnival is surely one of the most fascinating and exciting things you can experience, so if you're planning to visit this city, make sure to check on which days the festival will be celebrated that year! For the upcoming year, the days are from the 8th to the 25th of February!

Next up we have Milan, a city rich in history. Why not visit the L'Ultima Cena di Leonardo. The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is jealously guarded in the refectory of the Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Leonardo created this work of surprising beauty on the north wall of the great hall between 1494 and 1498, during the lordship of Ludovico il Moro. The brilliant Leonardo executed this masterpiece "dry" instead of using the fresco technique usually used for wall paintings. Unfortunately over time, due to environmental conditions and historical events, the work has suffered heavy deterioration and can only be partially seen. There have been numerous restoration works on The Last Supper, and in particular the one in 1999 has returned the painting to its original colors and has removed the previous interventions of painting.

Next up we have Jimin who traveled to Hawaii and France. Jimin was quite the jetsetter while on his vacation! If you are looking for activities in Hawaii, you can check out the complimentary walking tour in Kauai, offered by the Kauai Coffee Company. You don't even need to sign up for these free tours! So get your sunscreen, camera and enjoy the walk! Don’t forget to stop by the Visitors Center, where you can watch the ‘roasters’ do a demonstration on how they roast their delicious coffee!

If you are needing some quiet time you can visit the Byodo-In Temple. This is a beautiful temple in O’ahu, situated in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. Surrounded by beautiful lush trees and the 2,000 foot Koʻolau Mountains, its serene environment is open to people of all faiths. Here you can relax, unwind and enjoy the amazing beauty that nature has to offer.

Next up is the enigmatic France! There are lots of free activities that you can do in and around the city. The Paris Music Festival is held annually on the 21st of June to celebrate the summer solstice. You can also attend the free open air cinema screenings at Parc de la Villette, which features classics as well as the latest movies. If you are feeling energetic, why not try The Montmartre Tour? It is a 90 minute free walking tour (you only provide a tip at the end). It's one of the best ways to discover the city, and allows you to visit the Artistic District and many other hidden gems along the way.

ARMY, it is important for us to ‘Namjoon’ and relax from time to time, not forgetting to have some fun along the way! Where are your favorite vacation spots? Share them with us in the comments below!
