PREVIOUSLY ON BTS: MAY 30-JUNE 5 A FESTAve Week (wouldn’t Jin be proud?)
Hello ARMY and welcome to another Previously on BTS, where we recap BTS’ activities over the week. We'll get into FESTA a bit later. For now, we have a lot to get into and boy! Do we mean a lot!
Taking Billboard by Storm
Last week, we lovingly called this blog “So many records, so little time.” We had no idea that D-2 would continue smashing records and making history. I mean, we should have figured, right? This is Agust D’s new album we are talking about here!
Daechwita debuted at number 76 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first song by a Korean solo artist to debut in the top 80 since Psy in 2014. The song also debuted at number 100 on Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and number 9 on Billboard Hot Canadian Digital Song Sales Chart. In addition, the MV for Daechwita hit 6M likes in just five days, becoming the fastest MV by a Korean solo artist to do so.
While the song continues to climb the charts, the album itself is on fire! This week, Agust D became the first solo Korean artist to score a UK Top 10 album with D-2, debuting at number 7. It is also the highest charting album by a Korean solo artist in US Billboard 200 chart history after debuting at number 11. In addition, ARMYs’ favorite new album debuted at number 1 on Billboard World Albums Chart, number 12 on Billboard Canadian Albums Chart, number 9 on Billboard Rap Album Chart, number 2 on Billboard Top Album Sales Chart and number 1 on Billboard Independent Albums Chart.
All the Billboard love meant SUGA/Agust D broke more records of his own! He debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Artist 100 and became the only Korean solo artist to chart an entire album on both Billboard Digital Song Sales and World Digital Song Sales charts. This week D-2 occupied the entire Top 10 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. Read that sentence again ARMY! Could we be more proud?
Other Celebrations
Jimin’s song Filter set another record this week by being the fastest male Korean song to surpass 50M streams on Spotify. Filter set this record just 98 days after its release, making Jimin become the only Korean solo artist to have four songs with over 50M streams. Other accolades on Spotify for this week include D-2 reaching 50M streams, V acquiring 500k followers, and Heartbeat (from the BTS World OST) reaching 50M streams.
BTS also passed 20M followers on VLive. Huge news on the YouTube front as Fake Love reached 705M views and Black Swan passed 6M likes. The best news of all is that DNA surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube! Yes, ARMY - ONE BILLION!
In business news, it was announced that Bang Si Hyuk (founder of Big Hit) is the recipient of the 14th annual Pony Chung Innovation Award. This award, which celebrates positive change and growth in Korean society, was given to the chairman because of his influence in the current global music industry. Join us in congratulating him!
Fun and FESTA!
ARMY, have you been enjoying FESTA 2020? We definitely have! Let’s recap what’s happened so far. Day one brought us a summer version of Airplane pt. 2. Filmed during the summer of 2018 in Saipan, the MV shows BTS having fun and being themselves while chilling poolside.
Day 2 of FESTA was reserved for new family photos. The BTS 7th Anniversary Family Portrait included 33 pictures that show off their serious and funny sides at the same time, including some subunit pics that will make your heart melt.
The next day we were blessed with a rehearsal stage of Dionysus, which was filmed in Seoul during “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself [The Final]”. We are always grateful when BTS work so hard for ARMY.
The fourth day of FESTA brought a review of 2019-20 in pictures. This album features 20 photos of backstage moments, behind the scenes of “Boy With Luv MV”, and some snaps from their time in America.
Last but not least, June 5 at midnight (KST), Jungkook’s new solo song Still With You was released. Posted on Soundcloud as “Still With You by JK of BTS,” this beautiful song was made for ARMY to express how much Jungkook longs to see us again.
