PREVIOUSLY ON BTS: MAY 23-29 SO MANY RECORDS, SO LITTLE TIME

ARMY, did you survive? Are you breathing? We are barely hanging on, especially after such a busy week. As usual, BTS did not give us a chance to rest. Let’s get right into our recap of all things Bangtan Sonyeondan.

All SUGA, All the Time

We were all still busy streaming Daechwita when SUGA went live on BANGTANTV, to continue the painting he started two weeks ago. There was minimal talking, but SUGA wasted no time in streaming his new album. He then took to VLive for the latest installment of SUGA DJ’s Honey FM 06.13, where he disclosed that he would do a live exclusively for D-2 at a later time (see below). He was joined by the “maknae of SOPE”, j-hope, who talked about the coffee truck he sent to the MV set.

SUGA posted a picture on Weverse, seemingly making fun of himself in the wig from the MV. “Ah, Min Yoonji is a college student, but looks great,” he captioned. This is, of course, a shout out to one of our favorite Run BTS! episodes from 2017.

The stream of content continued when Big Hit released the Agust D MV shooting sketch on BANGTANTV. The video gives us over five minutes of behind the scenes information. We love hearing SUGA’s narrative, like how “Four years ago, Agust D became king; now another Agust D is confronting him.” He also talks about only practicing two days for the sword dance and ending up with blisters. We couldn’t tell though, could you? Be sure to watch the video for a secret about Jin and Jungkook’s cameo.

The momentum carried on for days, with Daechwita setting several records. On May 26, it was announced that SUGA was the only artist with two albums in the Top 15 on both US and UK iTunes. D-2 also topped number 1 in 82 countries with all tracks entering the WW iTunes song charts and charting in the Top 12 simultaneously! The same day, SUGA became the first Korean solo artist to get an All-Kill on the top WW charts. This allowed him to join RM and j-hope as the only Korean solo acts to reach number 1 on both US and UK iTunes’ album charts. In addition, Daechwita became the fastest MV to surpass over 20 million views on YouTube by a Korean solo artist.

Just when we thought we had a moment to breathe, Big Hit released the Agust D D-2 Mixtape Interview , giving us more behind the scenes scoop. Throughout the entire interview, it is evident that SUGA is very proud of D-2. He poured his heart into every aspect, which is why it took four years. He also had a lot of input on the MV; the set and scar were both his idea.

As promised, SUGA went live on Thursday night (KST) to talk about D-2. For an hour and 51 minutes, SUGA discussed the album and treated us with Jungkook singing the guide for Dear My Friend. He had over 10 million people watching him live, breaking j-hope’s record for the most live viewers.

A Busy Week For All

In other BTS news, RM and Jin took to VLive to do some scratch off coloring with ARMY in a segment called RJRJ. They gave a slight spoiler about filming something until 4 AM - FESTA perhaps? We will find out soon!

On May 23, V posted a painting of himself as a Simpsons character, a throwback to when he asked ARMY to draw him and Tannie as cartoons from the American TV show “The Simpsons”. The next day, he posted a photo of himself on Twitter looking at a Simpson’s style painting of himself from the Persona photo shoot.

Speaking of V, he broke an eight year record previously held by Korean singer Psy when his song Sweet Night reached No. 1 on iTunes charts in 88 different countries. The song, which was released as part of the OST for the Korean drama “Itaewon Class”, is sung entirely in English. To celebrate, ARMY trended the phrase #HistoryMakerV on Twitter.

BTS’ MV for Fake Love reached 700 million views this week, becoming their third MV to do so. Next up: 1 billion for DNA. Let’s get it, ARMY!

Other accolades for the week include MOTS: 7 winning French Gold Disc, MOTS: Persona hitting 1 billion streams on Spotify (BTS’ 8th album to achieve this), and BTS receiving more than 100 billion likes on VApp. In addition, BTS has surpassed 26 million followers on Twitter.

Jin went live on BANGTANTV on the 25th, treating us to almost 40 minutes of him practicing piano, a new skill for him. He did well, didn’t he ARMY? He also gave several spoilers about the new album, so be sure to watch it.

After what seemed like the longest break from social media ever, Jimin tweeted a picture of shoes that he and j-hope worked on together. Jimin’s shoes were painted with a beautiful cherry blossom, while j-hope went with a paint splatter technique.

In Other News....

Break the Silence episode 6 was released this week. The episode, titled “Now and Tomorrow” highlights BTS’ past, present, and future all in one. ARMY learned the real meaning behind the lyrics for Tear and RM discussed what life might be like after their turn as idols comes to an end.

Mid-week the boys posted a group photo on Weibo showing 6 out of the 7 members with black hair. Where are my black-haired Bangtan enthusiasts at? Big Hit also released some behind cut photos from Break the Silence, be sure to look for them on Weverse.

We also got our first look at the new album MOTS: 7 ~ The Journey ~. The pictures can be seen on BTS’ Japanese website.

FESTA Is Here!

The trailer for FESTA 2020 was released on May 28 at midnight (KST). The fifteen second video was just a short preview for what would come next, the schedule. We are so excited for FESTA! In fact, FESTA is the focus for our next full issue so please be on the lookout for that.

Alright ARMY, that seems to be it for this week. We aren’t sure about you, but we need a nap after all this content. Plus, we will need to rest for FESTA, which begins in just a few days. What are you most looking forward to? Reach out on our socials and let us know! Purple you!
